Wastewater Instrumentation
Capital H2O Systems may be best known for representing the ChemScan online wastewater nutrient analyzers for over 30 years, with well over 100 units deployed in Western Canada. These analyzers have proven to be an invaluable tool, providing timely data for operations to ensure they are meeting treatment objectives. Over time ChemScan’s capabilities have expanded to bioreactor and influent monitoring.
In addition to the ChemScan, we offer online analyzers for DO, TSS, pH, ORP, and also the one-of-a-kind SENTRY biosensor for real time measurement of rbCOD / bioavailable COD.

This is the classic “yellow box” ChemScan UV-series effluent analyzer that is in use in communities across Western Canada. This standard unit measures ammonia, orthophosphate, nitrate and UVT on up to two effluent streams.
The ChemScan has been designed for use with wastewater, with large ID sample lines to prevent plugging. For sample points downstream of secondary effluent, no filtration is required.

The ChemScan UV-series unit illustrated here is designed to accommodate up to eight sample lines. Parameters measured here are ammonia, orthophosphate, nitrate and nitrite. The nitrite parameter may be substituted for UVT measurement.
This unit has been furnished in a stainless steel enclosure for additional corrosion resistance. This option is available for all UV series analyzers.

The ChemScan mini is single-parameter analyzer and serves as a simpler alternative to the ChemScan UV-series analyzer. For wastewater, orthophosphate and ammonia analyzers are commonly used, as shown here. As with the UV series shown earlier, these units are designed for use with wastewater effluent, and no filtration is required.

We offer Aysix’s DO, TSS, pH, and ORP online probes for wastewater applications. These probes are installed directly in the waste stream, and we typically provide an automatic air blast cleaning system with a small compressor, as shown on the right hand side. The cleaning system activates at scheduled times to ensure the probe’s measurement surface always stays clean. Manual maintenance is kept to a minimum as a result.
For sites with an instrument air system, the controller may be used to control solenoid valves for air blast.

This site has multiple Aysix controllers installed together in a central location. 1, 2, 4 and 8-channel controllers are available depending on the specific measurement needs.
The controller offers the flexibility to connect any combination of DO, TSS, pH or ORP probes.

Aysix probes are commonly installed in bioreactors. Here a probe has been installed through covered reactor using a flange mount installation kit. The sensor comes with a standard 10 m cable; a junction box is provide and conventional instrument cable can be used to extend the signal to the controller.
For classified area applications, Aysix DO and TSS probes are available with Class 1 Div 2 rating.

This ChemScan unit for bioreactor ammonia measurement is equipped with a freeze-protected filter wand with replaceable filter, a vacuum pump, and an analyzer in a heated outdoor enclosure.
(Please note outdoor installations are only available in areas with a minimum temperature above -29C).

The inside of the enclosure includes a ChemScan mini analyzer, reagent and cleaning solutions, and a vacuum pump to work with the filter wand.

ChemScans are available for nutrient measurement of bioreactor contents. The unit pictured here is a UV-series analyzer, equipped with a cross-flow ultrafilter system to measure ammonia, nitrate, nitrite and orthophosphate in multiple MLSS streams.
The above unit was installed in 2006 and continues to operate today, demonstrating the robustness of ChemScan analyzers.

A typical installation of the Aysix online analyzer platform, consisting of a controller, and a jet clean device with a built in compressor. Manual cleaning by O&M staff is kept to a minimum.
All controllers and cleaning devices are equipped with internal heaters for successful operation in Western Canada winter conditions.

This ChemScan mini analyzer is measuring orthophosphate concentration in drinking water. For communities that dose phosphate for corrosion control in the distribution system, this analyzer provides a simple and reliable option for online phosphate monitoring.

The current generation of ChemScan UV-series analyzers features a 7-inch colour touchscreen for ease of operation and diagnostics. The same robust design is maintained on the wet chemistry and analytical components of the unit.

The Aquacell autosampler may be supplied as a complete unit with laboratory-grade fridge, like the unit on the left, or mounted onto the user’s own refrigerator.
The standard sampler is used with a single composite sample bottle, but the unit may be supplied with a distributor to fill multiple bottles if required by the application.

The Aysix Aquacell autosampler uses a vacuum pump system to reliably draw sample from up to 7 m below the sampler. The sample volume is set physically using a tube inside the sample vessel, making the sample volume is the same every time. Samples may be taken at regular time intervals and/or based on external triggers.
